ABOUT THE PRODUCTS

How do I apply a product?

Each of our products has a method of application based on its use, composition and the surface on which it can be applied.

In the product sheets on our website you will find information on the tools to use and the steps to follow for the application of the product on the desired surface.

How much product do I have to buy?

The product you should buy is determined by its yield.

This value allows us to know how much surface area (in m²) we can paint with a given amount of paint or product (usually one litre).

Therefore, you must first calculate the surface area to be painted in m².
Once you have the surface area calculated, you then also have to calculate the litres of product you will need to paint it. This calculation will help you to know the number of jars and the capacity you will need to carry out your project.

The performance of each product is indicated on the product bottles and in the technical data sheets of our products.

If you have any questions, please contact us through this form.

How long should I let the paint dry?

The drying time is separated into three types: Drying to the touch, drying for repainting and total drying.

Dry to the touch is when the appearance of the painted surface is dry and leaves no traces on the hand when touched.
Despite this, the paint is still wet inside and has not fully adhered to the surface, so we should not make any use of this surface or paint / varnish that has been painted.

Drying for repainting indicates that the paint has largely dried, has adhered to the painted surface and we can apply a second coat of paint without worrying about ruining the first coat.
It is important to respect this time frame when applying more than one coat of paint or varnish in order to achieve the desired result.

Finally, the complete drying of the paint indicates that it is fully adhered to the surface and can be used as desired.

So it is very important to know the drying times, which are indicated on the product bottles and in the technical data sheets of our products.

Do I have to take any precautions before painting?

First of all, you should know that La Pajarita paints undergo a strict safety control before being launched on the market. In addition, we are constantly working to reduce any risks that may arise from their use.

In order to know what safety measures to use, you first need to know whether the product you are going to use is ‘water-based’ or ‘solvent-based’.

‘Water-based’ products, as they do not meet the criteria for classification as hazardous products, do not require special protective measures.

Whereas for ‘solvent-based’ products we need to take into account certain specifications before, during and after use:
Keep out of the reach of children.

Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other sources of ignition. It is also not advisable to smoke near such products.

It is advisable to use gloves, covering clothing, glasses or protective masks for the person applying the product to be safer.

In case of contact with eyes, rinse affected eye(s) thoroughly with water for several minutes.

Dispose of the content/container you wish to dispose of through the selective collection system in your municipality.

Finally, La Pajarita has managed to obtain EN71-3 certification for several of its products, which makes them especially recommended for use in children's toys and furniture.

SURFACE PREPARATION

How do I clean my piece of furniture before painting?

To ensure the correct anchoring of the paintwork, we recommend using Aquaclean, our cleaner that removes grease and dust residues. It has the same usefulness as acetone with the advantage that it does not attack the surfaces.

Do I need to apply primer before painting with Chalk Paint?

No, our Chalk Paint does not require surface preparation but if you are painting a difficult surface, we recommend our All-Purpose Primer.

What can I apply to prevent stains from appearing on the wood after painting?

Our Anti-Stain Wood Primer Coat prevents tannins and other stains, such as damp, nicotine and ball point pens, from appearing on wood after painting and covers them definitively, preventing their reappearance.

Do I need to sand my furniture before painting with Chalk Paint?

No, our Chalk Paint does not require surface preparation.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Does Chalk Paint require varnishing?

No, it is not necessary to use any finishing product. However, if you are going to paint a piece of furniture that you are going to use a lot, with our varnishes you can ensure extra resistance and protection. Choose your finish: ultra mattemattesatingloss o glitter. On the other hand, if you prefer to use wax, our new Colorless water-based wax seals and protects, leaving a soft touch.

What are the differences between Chalk Paint, Eggshell Paint, Matte Paint and Gloss Paint?

The difference is in the finish. Chalk Paint has an ultra matte, Matte , Eggshell smooth satin finish and finally super Gloss Paint finish.

Why do you say that Chalk Paint is sustainable?

Due to its water formulation. The water-based formulation achieves a significant decrease in solvent emissions, which sometimes are zero, lower production of waste and energy consumption.

La Pajarita has implemented an environmental management system under ISO14000 certification.

And helps to give furniture and decorative objects a second life. A way to decorate the home in a sustainable way.

Can I paint Chalk Paint on surfaces other than wood?

Of course! Our Chalk Paint is a multi-surface one which means you can apply it on any surface. Although it is not necessary, for difficult surfaces we recommend our All-purpose primer , which ensures the correct anchoring of the paint.

Why does the unstirred paint look like it has been spoiled?

Because of the pigments that separate during storage, but it does not affect the quality of the paint and shaking it is sufficient.

How can the paint be cleaned?

Our water-based paints can be cleaned with soap and water. To clean your brushes and paints that have started to dry out, we recommend one of our new  Aquaclean.

Is it better to paint a piece of furniture with a roller or a palette knife?

That depends on the surface to be painted. To paint details or small areas we recommend using a paint brush. However, if you are painting a large piece of furniture, you will find it easier to use a short roller for a uniform finish.

How many coats of Chalk Paint should be applied to a piece of furniture?

Our Chalk Paint has very good covering and high performance. In some cases, if the colour chosen is very similar in shade to the surface to be painted, a single coat may be sufficient.
